In silico medicine” focuses on computational methods for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of disease as well as the study of the human body functions in healthy subjects. More specifically, it refers to the modeling, simulation and visualization of biological, physiological and medical processes in a virtual environment. For twenty years it has gradually established itself as a third way alongside the in vitro and in vivo approaches.
The research unit GIGA - In Silico Medicine consists of an interdisciplinary team of engineers, physicists, chemists and physicians who, by interacting with other thematic units of GIGA and clinicians, develop research activities along four main themes:

  • Modeling of the cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary systems
  • Tissue engineering

  • Neuroimaging, data acquisition and processing 
  • Model-based therapeutics

Liesbet Geris, responsable du laboratoire de génie biomécanique au sein de l’unité In silico Medecine (GIGA) vient d’être sélectionnée pour recevoir un ERC Consolidator Grant pour son projet INSITE. Dotée de 2.161.750€ cette bourse lui a été attribuée pour continuer ses recherches qui s’intéressent au développement de nouvelles stratégies in silico (à l’aide de modèles numériques) dans le domaine du génie tissulaire.
